At Beacon Elementary, we believe every child deserves a caring and supportive environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Serving students in preschool through second grade, we strive to build a welcoming community centered on kindness, perseverance, and success. Together, we work hard, show kindness, and help every student reach their full potential.
Welcome to Beacon. We're the school where your child first learns the rhythm of a school day, meets a teacher who knows their name, and starts calling themselves a Bulldog. Preschool through second grade is the foundation we build everything else on — and we take that seriously.
We are a small school by design. Class sizes stay tight, students see the same teachers from morning bell to dismissal, and families know each other from drop-off and pick-up. We are here to help guide you through the beginning of your child’s school journey. Our office is here to answer any questions you may have Monday–Friday 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Mornings start in classrooms with a soft welcome — kids unpack at their cubby, say good morning to their teacher, and settle into a calm opening routine. The day weaves together reading and writing workshops, math, recess, lunch, science or social studies, and a closing circle that previews tomorrow.
We prioritize time outdoors. Beacon students get three recess blocks a day, every day, in nearly every weather. Boots and rain coats are a Pacific Northwest essential — if you're new to the region, our office can recommend what your child may need.
Reading by the end of second grade is the strongest predictor of later success in school. Beacon teachers are trained in the science of reading — explicit phonics, structured small-group instruction, and assessment-driven small adjustments every week. We catch kids who are struggling fast, and we celebrate the moment a child reads their first sentence out loud.
Families: the single most powerful thing you can do at home is read with your child every day. It doesn't have to be long. Twenty minutes, in the language you're most comfortable in, makes a real difference.
We love family volunteers. The PTO hosts family fun nights, book fair, bingo night, and more. Classroom volunteers help with reading groups, field trips, and parties. A background check is required for all volunteers. Stop by the office to pick one up.
Want to drop in for lunch with your child? Parents and guardians are welcome — please call the office ahead of time so we can make sure we have enough space available.
