MONTESANO SCHOOL DISTRICT

Annual Student Registration / Update: August 17–23

Opens Monday, August 17  ·  Closes Sunday, August 23

Required for every returning student before the first day of school, Wednesday, September 2.

The Annual Student Registration / Update opens Monday, August 17 in Skyward Family Access and closes Sunday, August 23. Every returning Montesano student must be registered and updated before school begins — it is how we confirm your address, reach you in an emergency, and make sure your student is on the right bus, in the right school, and cleared for the activities they plan to join.

Most families finish in about 15 to 20 minutes. You can save your progress and come back, so there is no need to complete everything in one sitting. Families with more than one student complete the update separately for each of them.

Read the policies first

Part of the update asks you to acknowledge the district handbook and several board policies. Those documents are not inside Skyward — they live on our website, and we recommend opening them in a second tab before you begin so you are checking boxes on things you have actually read.

https://www.monteschools.org/policies/enrollment

Every family reviews the same ten items: Electronic Resources (Policy 2022), Excused and Unexcused Absences (Policy 3122), Student Records (Policy 3231), the District-Wide Student Handbook, the Annual Internet, Technology, Device, and Account Usage Agreement, the Attendance Agreement and Procedures, Field Trips (Policy 2320), Emergency Treatment (Policy 3418), the Rules and Regulations for School Bus Riders, and Student Discipline (Policy 3241).

The same page also holds the Family Guide for each school — Beacon, Simpson, and the Jr./Sr. High. You only need the one for your student’s school. It covers how a school day actually works: arrival and dismissal, attendance, food service, buses, health services, and school expectations. The page stays posted all year, so it is worth bookmarking.

How to complete the update

  1. Log in to Skyward Family Access. Use the same username and password you use during the school year. If you already have an account but cannot get in, use the “Forgot your Login/Password?” link on the sign-in page to request a password reset. Skyward emails the reset link to the address on file with the District — so if that address has changed, call your child’s school office instead. Please do not create a new account; every returning family already has one.

  1. Select Annual Student Registration / Update. You will find it in the menu once you sign in.
  2. Work through each step in order. The update walks you through your contact information, policy acknowledgments, health information, transportation, and fees. A step is not complete until every required item on it is finished.
  3. Submit at the end. You will see a confirmation when your update is complete. If you leave before submitting, your progress is saved but the update is not finished.

Before you begin, have these ready

  • Proof of residency documents — if your family has moved since last school year. You will upload two documents — for example a utility bill from the last two months, a signed lease, a mortgage or property tax statement, or government mail. Each must show a parent or guardian name and your new address.
  • A medication authorization form — if your student takes any medication at school, prescription or over-the-counter. You complete and sign one section; your student’s doctor completes and signs the other. Both signatures are required before the first dose can be given, and a new form is needed every school year. Start this one early — getting a prescriber’s signature can take several days.
  • Current phone numbers — for your student’s emergency contacts, and any changes to health conditions, allergies, or medications.

A note about fees

You can pay online through the Bulldog Online Store (RevTrak) for meal accounts, ASB cards, PE uniforms, and club dues. Please pay any outstanding balance from last school year.

One important exception: if you plan to apply for free or reduced-price meals this year, wait to pay ASB cards, athletic fees, and club dues. Students whose applications are approved may have those fees waived — but waivers are not applied retroactively, and fees already paid cannot be refunded.

Fee waivers take three steps, in order. Apply for free or reduced-price meals in Skyward Family Access. Wait for your approval notice. Then, if you are approved, return to Family Access and complete the Consent to Share form — nothing is waived until that form is signed. All three steps must be completed each school year; last year’s approval does not carry over.

Two steps that happen outside Skyward

A few items will send you to a separate site. When you finish one, return to Skyward and keep going — your update is not complete until you submit it there.

Athletics registration (FinalForms)

If your student plans to play a sport, athletic registration is completed in FinalForms, which uses its own login separate from Skyward. Both a parent and the student must sign — an athlete is not cleared until both signatures are in. Returning families usually only need to review last year’s information and re-sign. Fall sports families should not wait until the 23rd.

Beacon dismissal plan

Beacon families complete a short form telling us how their student gets home each day. If your student’s plan changes depending on the day of the week, use the comment section to tell us the schedule for each day — that is the detail we most often need and the one most often left out.

If you need help

School offices can help with login problems, resetting an account when the email on file has changed, paper copies of any document, and questions about any step in the update. If you are not able to scan or photograph a document, bring it in and staff will help you upload it.
