Board meetings are open to anyone — you don't have to live in the district to attend. Public comment is welcomed at the start of every regular meeting. Here's how it works.
Just show up — there's no sign-in required to attend, and you don't need to live in Montesano. Public comment happens at the start of the meeting, so plan to arrive a few minutes before the published start time.
Speakers (not general attendees) sign in so the chair has a count and can call you forward. Your name and the topic you'd like to address are usually all that's asked.
When called, walk up, state your name, and share your thoughts. The board will set the time per speaker — usually a few minutes — based on how many people signed up. The board listens; they generally don't respond during comment.
Stay for the rest of the meeting if you'd like, or head out. Your comments are part of the public record. The board may consider what you said when discussing related agenda items later in the meeting.
The board distinguishes uncivil discourse from negative-but-civil comments. Strong disagreement is not the same as a personal attack.
If you have a disability and need a modification to participate in a meeting — interpretation, assistive listening, an accessible seat, anything else — please contact the superintendent's office. For regular meetings, reach out at least three days before the meeting; for special meetings, as far in advance as you can.
