Buy the book
The Sylvan is Monte Jr./Sr. High's yearbook: built all year by the yearbook class and printed by Jostens. Books cost $65 during the first sales window at the start of the school year and $75 during the second window after winter break.
- First sales window: closed September 8, 2026.
- Second sales window: Monday, January 25 through Tuesday, February 16, 2027. Price $75.
- Order online at the Bulldog online store, Yearbooks category: montesano.revtrak.net/yearbooks. The category is empty between sales windows.
- Or pay in person with cash or check at the MJSHS bookkeeping office. Checks payable to Montesano High School.
- We order only a few extra books. Extras are sold at distribution, first come, first served, and most years they sell out. Buying during a sales window is the only way to be sure of a copy.
- Not sure whether you already ordered? Email Heather Bruland in bookkeeping at hbruland@monteschools.org.
- If the cost is a barrier, email yearbook@monteschools.org.
Senior portrait and senior quote
Deadline: Friday, January 8, 2027 for both the portrait and the quote. This is earlier than the senior ad deadline on purpose.
- Email the portrait to yearbook@monteschools.org with the senior's full name in the subject line. JPEG or PNG, the largest file you have (300 ppi preferred). Vertical orientation works best on the senior pages.
- If no portrait arrives by the deadline, the senior's fall school picture is used.
- Send the quote in the same email: the exact wording and the exact source (who said it). We verify every quote and source. A quote that is late or does not meet the senior policy below is replaced with the class motto, and a second choice is not accepted.
- Need a portrait taken? Email the yearbook staff and we will find a time.
Senior celebration and business ads
Ad sales cover almost a third of the cost of printing the book, which keeps the price down for every family. The program also pays the card-processing fees on book and ad sales (about $1,563 last year). A senior celebration ad is the best way to support the book, and a lasting page for your senior.
Deadline: Monday, March 1, 2027 for photos, wording, and payment.
Sizes and prices (full color):
- Full page, 8.5 in wide by 11 in high: $225
- Half page, 8.5 in wide by 5.5 in high: $140
- Quarter page, 4.25 in by 5.5 in: $85
- Business card, about one-eighth of a page: $50
New for 2026-27: yearbook students design every senior ad. This is a student publication, and the design work belongs to the students. Send your photos and wording, and a student is assigned to your ad and emails you a proof to approve or change. Please reply promptly; the earlier we have your materials, the sooner your ad is finished.
How to send materials:
- Email digital photos to yearbook@monteschools.org with the senior's name or business name in the subject. Photos should be 240 dpi or higher (300 preferred); phone photos at full size are usually fine. Screenshots are not.
- Or drop a flash drive, SD card, or printed photos at the high school office in an envelope with the senior's name or business name on the outside. Prints are scanned and returned.
- Email the wording to yearbook@monteschools.org. You will get a confirmation email when we have it.
Designing it yourself? Build the page in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Publisher. Not Word, not PowerPoint, not PDF. Export a JPEG at exactly the size you bought (a full page is 8.5 in wide by 11 in high) at 300 ppi, and email it to yearbook@monteschools.org. Occasionally a parent can come in after school and work on it with us, time permitting.
Paying: by debit or credit card at the Bulldog online store, or by check. Mail or drop checks at the high school: Montesano Jr/Sr High School, 303 North Church Street, Montesano, WA 98563, Attn: Heather Bruland.
Send us your photos
Game nights, club meetings, field trips, spirit days, the bus ride home: if you have a photo you think belongs in the book, we want to see it. Students and families are welcome to send photos all year.
- Email photos as attachments to yearbook@monteschools.org. JPEG or PNG is best; we can convert most other formats.
- Add a sentence about who is in the photo, what was happening, and when.
- iPhone users: your phone may save photos as HEIC. That is fine, we can convert them. If you would rather send JPEGs, go to Settings, Camera, Formats, and choose Most Compatible.
- We cannot promise every photo makes the printed book. Extras may appear in the yearbook's online photo gallery.
Senior policy
Seniors and parents: the yearbook staff values the traditions of senior quotes and senior portraits, and we need your help to keep them. After discussion with other schools and with school administration, these are the rules for senior quotes and photos.
Quotes
- Verses of a religious nature are acceptable.
- Controversial slogans and remarks about ethnicity or race are not permitted.
- Foul language, curse words, and implied cursing are not allowed.
- Words or phrases that may offend members of the greater Bulldog community are not allowed.
- The source of the quote must be cited. We verify each quote and source.
Photos
- No clothing that would contradict the school dress code.
- No hand signs. When in doubt, hand signs or symbols are digitally altered or removed at our discretion.
- Keep ads, photos, and quotes school and family appropriate. We respectfully reserve the right to decline any ad or photo we judge inappropriate for the yearbook.
Quotes, photos, and ads must meet the deadlines the yearbook publishes. The printer sets those dates and leaves little room for changes, so anything turned in late or outside these rules is left out of the book. A quote that is late or declined is replaced with the class motto; a second choice is not accepted.
School pictures and retakes
Jostens takes school pictures each fall, and that picture is the one printed next to every student's name in the book. Retake day this year was Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Families order prints from JostensPIX using the flyer sent home; the yearbook staff does not sell school pictures.
Past yearbooks
We have a small number of past Sylvans for sale from these years: 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Prices vary and books go first come, first served. Looking for a particular year? Email Heather Bruland (bookkeeping) at hbruland@monteschools.org or Shawn Donnelly (adviser) at sdonnelly@monteschools.org.
About the yearbook program
Thanks for checking out the Montesano Jr./Sr. High yearbook. The Sylvan is a year-long, student-created publication: the yearbook class takes the photos, writes the captions, designs the pages, and sells the ads. Yearbook is a Career and Technical Education class that meets 6th period, co-taught by Mr. Donnelly and Mr. Grajek, with student editors leading the staff.
Yearbook students work hard to make the book complete and accurate, and mistakes still happen. If you spot one, email us; we would rather hear it than not. Students who want to join the staff next year should ask their counselor about Yearbook when they register for classes.
