School day: 8:20 AM start, 2:40 PM dismissal.
Drop-off is at the gym doors on Simpson Avenue. Students may enter the building at 8:00 AM. Earlier drop-offs are not supervised. Parents and guests should enter through the office doors.
Walking and biking — many Simpson kids walk or bike. Crosswalks at Simpson Avenue are staffed before and after school. Bike racks are on the south side; helmets required by Washington law for under-16. Lock your bike.
Pick-up — students are picked up in the front parking lot. Please pull all the way forward in the car pick up line and do not exit your vehicle during pick up. Staff will assist getting your student safely to your vehicle. If you're running late, call the office.
Call (360) 249-4331 before 8:20 AM, or report online at monteschools.org/absence. If your child is sick, please keep them home — see the health section below.
Simpson is a 1:1 Chromebook school. Your child gets a school-managed Chromebook for use in the building. It does not go home unless the teacher sends it for a specific assignment.
Damaged Chromebooks: report immediately to the teacher. The district covers normal wear; intentional damage is the family's responsibility (typical replacement runs around $250).
Some weeks you'll see less, some weeks more — projects come in cycles. Homework expectations vary by teacher. We encourage families reading together and practicing math facts on a regular basis.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding homework, please reach out to the teacher.
We follow Washington State's school exclusion guidelines. Keep your child home if any of these are true:
Our school nurse is on site Monday through Friday. For medication during school hours, complete the medication authorization form before sending anything in.
We don't have a uniform. Simpson families know: appropriate shoes are required for PE, layers for the rain, and please save the offensive-message t-shirts for weekends.
Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:15 AM in the cafeteria. Lunch periods: 4th grade at 10:45, 3rd grade at 11:05, 5th grade at 11:25, and 6th grade at 11:45.
Menus are at monteschools.org/menus.
Free and reduced-price meals: families can apply at any point in the year. The application is on the food-service page or you can ask the office. These applications directly impact resources provided to the school.
Simpson's expectations are simple: be safe, be respectful, be responsible, be kind. We use restorative practices — when something goes wrong, students learn what happened, who was affected, and how to make it right. Serious or repeated issues involve families immediately.
Cell phones: students who carry phones must keep them off and in their backpack during the school day. Phones out during class are picked up and held in the office until the end of the day; repeated incidents involve a family conversation.
Family volunteers are essential. Background checks are free and the office walks you through the form. Common roles:
We run regular fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills. In a real emergency, follow district communication channels — FlashAlert, the website's alert banner, and Skyward messages. Do not come to the school until we tell you it's safe to do so. Reunification, if needed, happens at a designated location communicated at the time.
