Open in Google Docs to print → (opens in a new tab)We run a block schedule on alternating Red and Black days. Bell schedule lives in the sidebar of the MJSHS home page. Wednesdays are early release at 12:10 PM for staff collaboration.
Call the office at (360) 249-4041 before 7:55 AM, or report online at monteschools.org/absence. Late arrivals check in through the front office.
Washington law requires the school to take action when a student accumulates unexcused absences. We'll reach out before that threshold to problem-solve. Pre-arranged absences for college visits, family travel, and similar can be excused — let the office know in advance.
Phones are off and put away during class time. Phones out during class are picked up and held in the office until the end of the day; repeated incidents involve a family conversation and may result in a check-in/check-out routine for the day.
Smartwatches with messaging are treated the same as phones. Headphones are not allowed during class unless a teacher specifically uses them for the lesson.
School-issued Chromebooks are for in-building work. Damaged Chromebooks: report immediately. The district covers normal wear; intentional damage is the family's responsibility.
Cheating, plagiarism, and the unauthorized use of AI on graded work are treated seriously. First offense: zero on the assignment, family contact, and a conversation with the teacher and counselor. Repeat offenses can affect course eligibility, NHS standing, and athletic clearance.
Citing sources properly, getting tutoring, and turning work in late are all better options than cheating. Teachers will outline AI use expectations in their syllabi.
Grades are visible in real time through Skyward Family Access. Each course's syllabus details late-work and retake policy — they vary by department and teacher.
If a course feels off-track, reach out early. The counseling office can help with study strategies, schedule changes, or connecting with a teacher.
We don't have a uniform. Clothing must cover the essentials, must not display drug/alcohol/tobacco/weapon imagery or hate symbols, and must not be disruptive in a learning environment. Closed-toe shoes are required in shop, lab, and PE.
School dances are open to currently enrolled MJSHS students. Outside guests must be approved through a guest form filed with the office at least three school days ahead — guests must be under 21 and a current high school student or recent graduate, with a valid ID.
Prom is for juniors, seniors, and their dates. Junior High dances are for 7th and 8th graders only. Tickets are sold through ASB; pricing is announced for each event.
Student parking permits are issued through the office at the start of each year — current driver's license, proof of insurance, and a parent signature required. Parking is in the student lot only; staff and visitor lots are off-limits.
Driving privileges can be suspended for repeated traffic violations on campus, parking outside the student lot, or leaving campus without permission during the school day.
MJSHS is a closed campus during the school day, including lunch. Students may not leave campus without checking out through the office with a parent/guardian phone call or in-person sign-out. Off-campus lunch is not part of our program.
Washington requires a work permit for minors under 18. The office issues these once the employer's portion is on file. Allow a couple of days for processing.
Senior milestones — cap-and-gown orders, scholarship application windows, senior breakfast, graduation rehearsal, ceremony details — are tracked by the counseling office. Watch the daily bulletin and Skyward messages for deadlines.
We follow Washington State's school exclusion guidelines. Keep your student home for fever (100.4°F or higher within 24 hours), vomiting/diarrhea within 24 hours, untreated strep or pink eye, or undiagnosed rash. The school nurse is on-site on a published schedule; for medication during school hours, complete the medication authorization form first.
We run regular fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills. In a real emergency, follow district communication — FlashAlert, the website's alert banner, and Skyward messages. Do not come to the school until we tell you it's safe to do so. Reunification, if needed, happens at a designated location communicated at the time.
