If English isn’t your first language, or you’re new to this school or to the country, you are a full part of Montesano from your very first day. You’ll get help learning English — for free — and you don’t have to have it all figured out. Here’s what’s true for you.
Not once your English is good enough — right now, today. You don’t have to earn your place, and you don’t “test out” of being welcome. This is your school.
And it’s free. You get extra support built into your day so you can keep up in every class while your English grows. Needing that help is normal — it’s not a mark against you.
Classes, clubs, sports, art, college, all of it. Still learning English doesn’t lock you out of anything — and it definitely doesn’t mean you’re not smart. You’re learning two things at once; that’s hard and impressive.
For meetings, forms, report cards, and phone calls, your family has the right to an interpreter and translated information — free. Just ask, and we’ll set it up.
Every young person in Washington has the right to a free public education — no matter where you or your family were born. Your right to be here does not depend on immigration status, and it’s not something we ask about. School is your safe place to learn. Full stop.
Her whole job is helping students like you feel at home and get what you need. Reach her, or start with any counselor or teacher. If it’s easier in your language, that’s okay — we’ll get an interpreter.
