Winter Conferences

Winter conferences will be held on Thursday, February 9 and Friday, February 10. Beacon students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. on these days. There is no preschool on February 9 and 10. 

Your child’s teacher has maintained documentation of the progress your student has made toward achieving grade level standards. At this conference the teacher will be able to provide detailed information regarding the skills which have been attained and those skills on which your student needs to focus for the remainder of the year. Report cards will be mailed home on February 3.

In some cases teachers will not request a conference. If you would like to have one, please call to arrange an appointment.

Winter Break

Beacon Elementary will be closed December 19 - January 2 for winter break. January 3 is a scheduled weather day. Since we have not had to make up any days due to weather related closures, there will be no school on this day. School resumes on January 4.

Holiday Movie & Craft Night

Montesano PTO Family Fun Night presents Holiday Movie & Craft Night on Thursday, December 1st, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Simpson Elementary. 

Come watch two classic movies or choose your favorite: How the Grinch Stole Christmas will play at 6:15 p.m. and Frosty the Snowman will play at 6:55 p.m. Decorate cookies. Write a letter to Santa and deliver it to him! Make a Christmas ornament to brighten your tree. Create your very own Frosty mask and show it off in this year's newest attraction - a photobooth. It's a great opportunity to stock up on Monte gear gifts for the holidays, too! All crafts and snacks are free. Students must be accompanied by an adult.

Halloween Activities

  • PTO Family Fun Night presents Halloween Costume Bingo on Thursday, October 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Simpson Elementary. Families are encouraged to dress in costume and enjoy a game of bingo. All bingo games, prizes, and snacks are free. Students must be accompanied by an adult.

  • The businesses of Montesano are hosting the 3rd Annual Montesano Downtown Trick or Treat event on Monday, October 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Look for an orange sign in the window of participating businesses.

  • The Montesano High School ASB is once again sponsoring the Haunted Hallways event on Monday, October 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Families are welcome to come to the high school for FREE games, treats, and fun!

Highly Capable Program Referrals

Beacon Elementary will be offering the Highly Capable Program for students in grades K-2 for the 2016-17 school year. 

WAC definition of Highly Capable:
Students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments. Outstanding abilities are seen within students’ general intellectual aptitudes, specific academic abilities, and/or creative productivities within a specific domain. These students are present not only in the general populace, but are present within all protected classes. 
Students who are highly capable may possess, but are not limited to, these learning characteristics:
1. Capacity to learn with unusual depth of understanding, to retain what has been learned, and to transfer learning to new situations
2. Capacity and willingness to deal with increasing levels of abstraction and complexity earlier than their chronological peers
3. Creative ability to make unusual connections among ideas and concepts
4. Ability to learn quickly in their area(s) of intellectual

Qualifying students will receive differentiated instruction in their regular classrooms and participate in a weekly Extended Learning Program. If you would like to refer a student for evaluation for this program, please complete the referral form and return it to the school office by Friday, October 7th. Referrals turned in after the deadline will be considered for the following year.

End of Year Parent Luncheon

Parents & special guests are invited to join their students for lunch on Tuesday, June 7.  Lunch will be a choice of hamburger or hot dog, served with baked beans, fresh fruit, veggies, chocolate chip cookie, and milk.

Prices are $3.75 for adults and $2.60 for additional children (non-students). Exact change or check is appreciated.
