Annual Student Information Update 2021-2022

The following letter was both mailed and emailed to parents/guardians this month. Please review the contents as there is important back-to-school information. The Annual Student Information Update will be available in Skyward Family Access beginning Wednesday, August 18.

Dear Montesano Junior/Senior High Parents & Students:

Welcome Back Bulldogs and a special welcome to the “Class of 2027”.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone next month. We are hoping for a much more “normal” school year for 2021-2022.  The Junior-Senior High Office opens Monday, August 23.

We know many of you have questions as to what the school year may look like.  Masks will be required  for all staff and students while on campus, which includes classrooms, hallways, etc.  Lockers will not be issued this year in order to ensure less congestion in the halls.  Students will have 4 classes per day, on a 45 day term schedule. In total, students will have 8 classes throughout the year but only four classes each quarter.  This will feel familiar to the students as it’s the same grading period as last year, just an additional class per term. Click here to see the 2021-2022 class time schedules.

MODEL Program: The MODEL Program has had significant changes.  If your student had the MODEL program last year and is wanting to continue the program, or if your student is thinking about changing to the MODEL program, you will need to contact the Counseling Center at 360.249.1636 for complete program information and to make sure your student meets the criteria and is enrolled. All MODEL students will be required to attend an orientation before gaining access to their courses.  More information will be provided in the weeks to come.

Online Annual Student Information Update: We are again using online forms to update information for all returning students including incoming seventh graders. This is our Annual Student Information Update.  We will not be sending forms home. This Information Update will open on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. All students must have these forms completed in order to view their class schedules.

To begin the annual update, log into Skyward: Parents/guardians will need to log into Skyward Family Access.  To get to the Skyward link, visit the district website at www.monteschools.org.  Click on the Skyward tab.  A new window will open and you’ll be asked for your Skyward credentials. If you do not remember your password, need it reset, or just need assistance with Skyward, you can email mhsskyward@monteschools.org or leave a message at 360.249.1635.

For those without internet access at home, we will have computers available that can be accessed by parents/guardians on Monday, August 23 & Tuesday, August 24 between 9:00AM-11:00AM. Again, this information update must be completed before the student’s schedule is visible in Skyward Family/Student Access.  Any schedule changes, if necessary, will be made after Labor Day weekend.  Students can see the Counseling Center after September 6 for such inquiries.

Open House:  Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8. More information on Open House will be emailed to families at the end of the month.

Lunch Accounts/Fees & Fines: In addition to updating/verifying your information, you may also add money to your student’s lunch account in Skyward Family Access.  Any/all fines and fees from the previous school year must be paid in full before the new school year begins. If you have any questions, please call the MHS Bookkeeping Office at 360.249.1632.  The HS Office will open at 8:00AM on Monday, August 23.

PE Uniforms:  PE Uniforms will be required for the 2021-2022 school year. Our uniforms are the same as in previous years. If you need to purchase a new PE uniform, visit the “Bulldog Online Store” on our Montesano Jr/Sr High School web page.  With the online store, you will be able to indicate size and quantity.  (You cannot purchase PE uniforms in Skyward).  Purchased PE Uniforms will be distributed on the first day of class.

Yearbooks: Yearbooks for the 2021-2022 school year will also be purchased through the “Bulldog Online Store”.  (This is a change from previous years.)  Yearbook costs begin at $55 and the price will increase as the year goes by, so purchase one early!

7th Graders: As with other grades, your class schedules will be viewable in Skyward Family/Student Access after the Annual Student Information Update has been completed by your parent/guardian.  We will be sharing our 7th Grade Orientation video before school starts.  The Jr-Sr High Office opens Monday, August 23. We will not be issuing lockers this year, so there are no locker combinations to memorize and practice; however you are more than welcome to come to school and practice walking to and from your classes until you’re comfortable with your schedule.

Dress Code: The Montesano Jr/Sr High School Student Handbook is available on the school website (and also part of the Annual Student Information Update).  Please take a moment to review the Dress Code portion of the handbook.  Here are some important dress code reminders before you go school clothes shopping for the 2021-2022 school year:

·       Halter tops, tube tops, half shirts and/or spaghetti straps are not allowed. Midriffs and undergarments must be covered at all times. Tank tops must be at least 3 fingers in width.

·       Clothing that displays pictures, emblems, or writing that is lewd, offensive, vulgar, and/or obscene or that advertises or depicts tobacco, alcohol, or drug use is prohibited.

·       Pants, dresses, skirts and shorts that do not cover undergarments and/or are less than mid-thigh in length are not allowed.  This includes ripped jeans exposing the upper thigh.

Athletics: All athletic paperwork must be completed prior to turning out for a sport.  We use Final Forms for all of our required documentation:  https://montesano-wa.finalforms.com. Sports physicals are valid for two years. Additionally, if you are planning on turning out for a sport, you must purchase an ASB card before you can participate.  The cost for the 2021-2022 ASB card is $35.00 for both junior high and high school.  For your convenience, it may be purchased online through Skyward Family Access/fee management. Please make sure when you purchase an ASB card online that you choose the correct one (junior high or high school).

High school football begins Wednesday, August 18.  All other high school fall sports will begin on Monday, August 23, as does junior high cross country. Junior high football begins on Monday, August 30.

School starts on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.  School pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 9.  All students are required to have their picture taken, regardless of whether they purchase pictures from the photographer. This is for school records documentation.

Remember, the online Annual Student Information Update is REQUIRED before your child comes back to school on September 1.    Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer vacation, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!
