Foster Youth Scholarship
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Foster Youth Scholarship you must:
Be enrolled as a Washington State high school senior and on track to graduate from high school during the 2013-2014 academic year OR be enrolled at a nonprofit accredited public or independent college or university in the state of Washington
Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or greater
Plan to enroll in college on a full-time basis, beginning the fall term of 2014, and complete a program of study at an eligible, nonprofit accredited public or independent college or university in the state of Washington
Have resided in Washington State for at least three academic years prior to high school graduation
Currently in an open dependency court order that resulted from intervention by Washington State on their behalf and they have been placed in any of the following living situations:
Foster Care
o Family Foster Care, with non-relative adults
o Kinship Care, with relatives
o Residential/Group Care
Dependency Guardianship (with either relatives or non-relatives)
Guardianship (with either relatives or non-relatives)
If under 18, applicants must either have a current dependency court order for their placement, or if over
18, students must have lived in a court-ordered foster care, dependency guardianship or guardianship until emancipation, (age 18).
Applicants are not eligible if they:
Have been adopted
Returned to live with their parents before turning 18, (regardless of whether the court continued to remain involved)
The dependency court order has been dismissed
Were not dependent to federal, state or tribal court prior age 18

Two Typed Essays on the above listed prompts.
All entries are subject to disqualification if they do not meet the above rules and requirements. School requirements will be verified before selection. All decisions are final. Entries must be received or postmarked by the required deadline. Entries received of postmarked after the required deadline will not be eligible for consideration. Scholarship amounts range from $1000-$2500. Recipients will be notified by May 12, 2014. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the school.
