Training is Available for Candidates that Do Not Possess a CDL Endorsement
Prior to starting the MSD School Bus Driver Training Course, the candidate must:
Complete MSD Application for employment
Provide a copy of their driving record specific to school bus driving
Complete and receive digital fingerprint clearance through ESD 113
Obtain a DOT Physical valid for up to one year
Possess a valid CDL Class B Permit with School Bus and Passenger endorsements with the air brake restriction removed
Pass mandatory federal drug and alcohol testing
The candidate is responsible for all costs associated with obtaining these items.
The MSD School Bus Driver Training Course consists of:
20 hours of Classroom instruction that covers OSPI mandated policies and procedures for School Bus Drivers. Learning state and federal regulations pertaining to pupil transportation, as well as Montesano School District policies and procedures for transportation staff. Classes will be scheduled Monday through Friday for 4 hours each day.
40 hours Behind The Wheel instruction that covers the Department of Licensing’s mandated Pre-Trip Inspection, range driving, road driving, and backing maneuvers. OSPI mandated procedures for Railroad crossings, Student stops, and Emergency stops. Classes will be scheduled Monday through Friday for three hours each day.
