Preschool

The primary purpose of our preschool program is to serve students with special needs. A developmental preschool for three and four-year-olds is available to qualifying children with delays in communication, social/emotional, adaptive, cognitive, and/or physical development. In addition, a limited number of preschool spots are also available to typically developing income-eligible students as part of ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program). At this time, we are not offering a community preschool program. However, we encourage all parents to sign their children up for a free developmental screening. Children must reside within the Montesano School District boundaries and meet the conditions for enrollment.

Please call the Beacon Elementary office at (360) 249-4528 to schedule a free screening to determine preschool eligibility. Enrollment applications for preschoolers are not needed at this time. Screenings will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 and Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Results of the developmental screening will be given at the time of your appointment. Please plan for 1 hour and 15 minutes for this appointment.

The morning preschool session is 8:20 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. The afternoon preschool session is 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Preschool students attend 3 - 4 days per week, either morning session or afternoon session, depending upon their program enrollment.

Special Education:

Our preschool program is fundamentally different from the other community or co-op preschool programs since its primary directive is to identify preschool students with disabilities and provide them with the special education services. When students with disabilities are served in the developmental preschool, they receive specialized instruction in a developmentally appropriate preschool classroom. A developmental preschool for three and four-year-olds is available to qualifying children with delays in communication, social/emotional, adaptive, cognitive, and/or physical development.

Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP):

The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP, pronounced “e-cap”) helps children and families get ready for kindergarten. ECEAP is funded by Washington State and is free to qualifying families. It serves four-year-olds from low-income families, or with developmental or environmental risk factors that could interfere with school success. ECEAP includes preschool education, transportation, health services coordination, and family support services. The program works closely with parents to support their children’s health and education and to meet family goals. ECEAP also helps families access medical and dental care and social services. We have a limited number of ECEAP slots allocated to our district. ECEAP slots are available for children who are 4 years of age on or before August 31, 2019. Children must reside within the Montesano School District boundaries and meet the conditions for enrollment. Click here to view ECEAP income eligibility limits. Kindergarten

To be eligible for kindergarten, a student must be five years of age prior to September 1, 2019. Full-day kindergarten is offered to all students free of charge.

Out of District Students

If you reside outside the Montesano School District boundaries, you are required to annually submit an Application for Attendance in Nonresident District form for each child for approval. Families are encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible, however, the district may not approve out of district applications until the start of school in August.
