Video 5: Superpower Sight Words Part 1: One Two Three - READ!!!

Video 6: Superpower Sight Words Part 2: Practice, Play and Performance

A very satisfying way to introduce young children to reading is to teach sight words in context because they are the most commonly encountered words in the English language. With parental support, children can be reading sentences in a matter of days. Since memory alone is not enough, the videos show four different ways children can be taught to enjoy learning sight words. Both videos provide exciting and motivating games for parents and children to enjoy together.

Video 7: Come-alive Reading: It’s party-time reading in my home.

Video 8: Echo and Repeated Reading: I read just like you.

These videos model strategies that will teach parents how to encourage a love of reading and books---but achieve so much more. Even with beginning readers, parents can teach fluency. The videos demonstrate how they can model expression, volume and pacing to take their children beyond word-to-word reading and into meaningful comprehension, all done with lots of fun and amusing games. Reading and enjoying great books with their kids---what better way for parents to help guide them towards mastery of these most important foundational skills!

Video 9: Shared Reading: Teaching Me, Loving Me and Reading with Me

Video 10: Shared Writing: My Pen, Your Pen, Our Pen

These two videos demonstrate effective strategies that primary teachers use every day in their classrooms---techniques that can be even more successful when parents use them one-on-one with their own children. Our presenters will model step-by-step, how parents can use reading and writing experiences to build confidence as they watch their children become independent readers---parents and kids working side-by-side, taking turns, sharing tools and celebrating good reads and creative writing together.
